Too Cool for Internet Explorer

daily pic #8 - karma

Tonights picture is a little late, but it’s at least during my waking day. I’m sitting at Denny’s waiting for a sandwich. Well, now I’ve eaten it. The picture below was taken at Karma Coffeehouse in Hollywood.

Karma

I have been going there once a month for about a year to help with Don’t Call Us Tori. Now I’m off to play pool and xbox 360.

daily pic #7 - gingerbread

November 23rd, 2006

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Well, I made it to a milestone. One full week of daily pictures. That’s one thing I’m thankful for today. Here’s the top of the gingerbread I ate today.

Gingerbread

Now this isn’t the gingerbread you make houses from. That’s like a gingerbread cookie. This is the real thing. Two inches thick of moist molasses goodness. It’s like cornbread, but it’s gingerbread and not crunchy. I’m thankful for this gingerbread. Mmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When does something lose its usefulness? How do we know when something actually has become useless?

Fence

Has the empty thermometer shell become useless? The numbers seem to be meaningless without something to compare them against. But it is possible that someone is curious about the equivalence of Celsius and Fahrenheit. Thus, they would prove useful again. Possibly the shell itself is attached to it’s environment so much that taking it down would cause damage. Is it’s purpose just to make me stop and think about such things?

Have an awesome Thanksgiving everyone! If you are outside the US, take heart. I will eat extra food for you.

don’t press the blue E!

November 21st, 2006

I’m sick of running into friends that still use Internet Explorer for their browser. Ok, let me break this down for the ones that are. If you are still using IE then you probably have no clue what I’m talking about. You know that big blue ‘E’ on your desktop, the one you press to get “on the internet”? Ok, that is how you open your browser and it is called ‘Internet Explorer’. What I want you to do is press the button below. That will tell you all you need to know about why it is bad and what other browsers are available.

Browse Happy!

Now that you are back, my personal favorite is Firefox, but since I have a Mac, I also run Safari. I don’t use Opera, but I don’t have anything against it. So please, PLEASE, if you haven’t switched browsers yet, do it now. Right now. No, don’t click another link until you have gotten a new browser.

Ok, say you go to a website and it doesn’t work in your browser. COMPLAIN! There is no reason for it not to work except for laziness. Say you go to a friends MySpace page and it doesn’t show up right. COMPLAIN! Tell your friend to go to browsehappy.com, just like I had you do. There is no reason to let them remain in danger if you are their friend. Also, there are very few sites that are IE only anymore. So don’t give up on it just because of those one or two sites. Think about your safety.

Along the same lines, if you are still using Outlook Express for your email. For similar reasons, please check out Thunderbird.

cheers!

daily pic #5 - dome

Okay, I’m not going to back out on my challenge, but I picked the wrong time of year to do this. During this time of year, I get off work after the sun sets. This could be a good time for night pics, but I would need to get my hands on a tripod for that. Or get really creative, and I’m already pushing that extreme with trying to figure out what I want to shoot. So that leaves me with trying to find stuff around the house I want to shoot. Thus, today’s pic:

daily pic #2 - ties

November 18th, 2006

This afternoon I went to a memorial service and funeral for Margaret Harris. She was a lady that I did not, unfortunately, know. She and her husband, Jake, had attended my church while I was not home and have since been going through various physical ailments. The reason I chose this picture for today was a ritual I had never heard of before. The pallbearers ripped their ties and lay the torn off piece on the casket. The picture below is of a pallbearer laying his tie and the man behind is a nephew, with his tie already torn.

Ties

It was overheard that this fetched back to Bible times in which they would tear their clothes. I tried to find more information on the internet, but came up with nothing but the Jewish tradition keriah. It is similar but does not mention any type of actual tearing a piece off and burying it with the deceased. If anyone has more information, please let me know. It is an intriguing tradition.

Introducing the youngest member or our family, BC. Short for Baby Cat. Yes … it’s very original … don’t argue with me!

claws

When our cat passed away at a ripe old age of 21, we promptly adopted 3 more. We had been feeding the oldest, DC, for several years. At one point he disappeared for several months and came back very skittish. We are pretty sure he got adopted and abused. Cuddly Cat, CC (seeing a trend yet?), started showing up sometime last April and has had two batches of kittens. All from the first batch have disappeared and all but the one shown above from the second. And that’s how we now have three cats as pets. Aren’t you so glad that you read all that?

cheers!

my first website

November 16th, 2006

Ok, I’ve made a few websites before. I’m a web programmer, that’s what I do. But I’ve never actually made one for myself. For whatever reason, I’ve toyed with the idea and checked for domain name availability several times, but never made the final leap. Well, I’ve done it. I made my very own website at my very own skeemer.net (also skeemer.info and skeemer.org).

Here’s the crazy part. The reason for doing it is that I bought a camera … I’ll just let that hang out there a bit to see if you can figure that one out. Actually, my goal, starting tomorrow, is to find something to take a picture of and post every single day for a month. No exceptions. That may sound crazy, but I spent about $1100 total on the camera and accessories and I think I should get into the habit of using it. I can say no exceptions because I’m really geeky and can hook my laptop up to the internet via my cellphone if I have to. I’m not sure if I will blog every single day, but I will be uploading it to my gallery. I’ll hopefully get it so the picture automagically shows up in the sidebar, as well as a link to the gallery. So that’s why I finally made a website. To force myself to use my camera. How dull, oh well.

Please leave comments on what you think about this or in response to the other posts.

cheers!

christopher cross concert

November 16th, 2006

I got the chance last week to have a lot of fun. I took off Tue,Wed,Thur to prepare and setup the sound for a Christopher Cross Concert in Hanford, CA. It was part of a benefit for a local Adventist Health hospital. Tuesday and Wednesday I was in Coursegold helping get all the equipment ready. That meant (re)making snakes(the big cord bundle thingies) and moving gear around to the proper racks(the big boxes you see near the mixer dude). I also got to tear into a Midas Verone 480(the mixing board) and rearrange the panels(just guess). For the astute, we moved the stereo fader bank to the right end. The picture below putting in the last screws after the switch.

Working

We packed all the gear up Thursday morning about 3:30 and got two hours of sleep before heading down and setting it all up. The next pic is the board all set to go after the sound check.

Board

During the break I headed over to where the Gala was being held and slipped in the back door to grab some food. Oddly enough, both PUCites, Gemabelle and Ruthie, that I know are living in the area were at the event and volunteering. Quite a surprise. Then I went back over for the concert and got to sit back and enjoy the concert. Here’s a shot from my favorite part, the acoustic set.

Cross

After the concert, we were dragging really bad. We finally did get it all packed up (thanks to the awesome guys helping us) and grabbed some Taco Bell. I got four hours of sleep and then it was back on the road for me because I had to work that day. That’s a very short version of a very busy three days.

cheers!
