daily pic #16 – late night trouble

I started to write this post during the weekend, but I was just too tired to manage it. The reason being that we ran into major trouble getting the system up this last weekend. The culprit is shown below.

late_night_trouble.jpg

Here’s the rest of the story if you are so inclined to bore yourself. We loaded all the gear up on Wednesday in hopes of getting it all functioning on Thursday. When we got there, they weren’t completely ready for us, so we actually couldn’t start setting up till after 2. When we finally started, the motor wouldn’t work. Come to find out the panel we tied into was higher voltage than normal. The motor said it could handle it, but we didn’t know we needed to open it up and make some adjustments first. Well, we blew the transformer (pictured above hanging out) and had to find another way to run it. By 2:30 we finally had both arrays of speakers hanging and by 3 we had the full system running. We got home around 4 and bed a while later. I had to be up by 8 and Jim was up earlier because he had to go to a funeral. So, I did the rest of the setup. Basically, we were tired all weekend long since we had to start out on less than 4 hours of sleep. Our job came off mostly without a hitch, so that was good. When I finally got some good sleep Sunday, I slept for 11 hours! I think I woke up once and went right back out. Now that you are thoroughly bored, I will end this and go to sleep. I’m off to MBA to check out the sound system in the morning.

cheers!

daily pic #15 – blu-rred

I shouldn’t be up still, but I am. I’ll blame it on a friend of mine and then proceed to stay up later to upload a picture and write this post. Make sense? Yeah, I think posting this late at night shows a weird side of me. At any rate, I’ve had this picture sitting around for a while. Since I had edited it previously, it was ready to go and I needed something fast, here it is.

daily pic #14 – leslie

I’m finally getting around to some of the pictures from the Soquel Women’s Retreat. This is a picture of my partner in crime, Leslie.

leslie.jpg

This was actually taken with her camera and my lens. We did whatever we could to get the best results during those retreats. Good times. I miss working with that core crew. The people I worked with most over the three weekends were Debbie, Janet, Jim, and Leslie. I’ll probably get pictures of all of them on here at one point or another. I know I’ve got some great ones.

You should check out Leslie’s artwork at lesliebatty.com. Its amazing. Also, notice the size of each painting, they are large and some are ginormous.

cheers!

a couple rants

The first is a rant about MySpace and it will lead into the next one. I’m getting sick of MySpace for several reasons. Changing your own page’s design sucks! There is no reason that you should have to edit your site design by adding illegal(yes, you aren’t supposed to do it according to web standards) CSS tags into the “About Me:” section. That is kludgy and just wrong. It also doesn’t extend beyond your profile page. While on that line of thought, this is a major site that could really take advantage of Web 2.0 technologies and it still hasn’t 2 years after that movement became strong!
Having to log in for everything just irks me. Ok, I kinda get this one, but it still bugs me. I realize that for underage privacy stuff, they have to do it. But I’m sick of private profiles of people that I might know. I hit their page and its like, “do I recognize them in this pic or not?” I’m sorry people, privacy on the ‘net does not exist. Period. If you have something to say that you don’t want your mom to read, just don’t say it. It probably really ain’t worth it.

That leads to my second rant. Somehow I missed being friends with a certain crowd of people. The ones that interact with the web instead of just using it. Let me clarify. People that use the web just pass through. Emails and IMs just crossing it. Searching or reading, but rarely contributing. I only have 3 friends that I know of that blog regularly(trina and jackit, you guys rock!). My mom posts images to flikr regularly. Is my generation so luddite that they can’t even keep up with my mom!!! She’s still stuck in 5th and 6th grades!(Ok, so that’s a joke. She’s the teacher.) Stop just passing through the web making sure not to bump it. Feel it! Touch it! Move it! Shout and cause ripples! And just to clarify, MySpace doesn’t count. Hiding behind a “login required” wall does not count. That means you still haven’t interacted with the web, just a few friends that are allowed to see what you posted.

Just so that you know, I’m not suggesting this for minors. Well, maybe I am. But that’s only because I’d like to see the parents take an active role in showing their children how to use the web in a safe manner. If its public, then they can monitor what their kids are doing without any perception of invaded “privacy”. The internet is not the protected daycare. It’s a public park where they need taught the most basic of rules, “Don’t talk to strangers.”

I think that does it. Myspace needs redesigned, more friends of mine should create on the internet and kids should too.

daily pic #13 – clouds 2

This was taken tonight. I got a call that I needed to grab my camera, run out and catch it. So, since I was terribly busy, I did as suggested. (If you don’t know, I have lots of time on my hands, normally.) So here’s the result.

95

I took a few others of just the sunset that were pretty cool, too. No, I’m not saying I’m an awesome photographer, just that there was a good view to capture. This one captured me with the way the clouds dissipated at the top. Hope ya’ll enjoy it.

daily pic #12 – tree 1

I’m not in the mood to write anything profound, but I might anyway.

Nope, nothing came to me. Hmm… guess I’ll dedicate this one instead. Its dedicated to my friend trina over at feelgoodrevolution.com. Someone special to her said she would like it; so, I hope that’s true.

daily pic #11 – clouds 1

The main reason that I initially picked this picture today was it was the first thing that popped up when I opened iPhoto. So, that’s a pretty lame reason, but the more I looked at it, the more it fit. That may be just because its easy to look at something and correlate it, but whatever.

89

Now that you’ve seen the pick, I’ll explain what I see this time around. For one, its a sunset and just a little while ago, the sun set on another work week. In some ways I’m glad, but on the flip side I get depressed. Living alone has some distinct disadvantages. I liked it at home. I didn’t need the interaction necessarily, but I enjoy the presence of others. And if I have something to say, there is someone to listen. Sure, I have friends online that I chat with (thank you friends!!!), but for some reason I just want to be around people. For example, Wednesday, I was just working on some stuff on my laptop at the church after a meeting. Actually there were three of us just absorbed in doing stuff on our computers, but I didn’t want to leave once I got some questions answered. I just enjoyed having the other guys around. I guess most of my family is the same way, and that’s why I could live live with my parents even as an adult. High levels of interaction aren’t required, just your presence. Some people really won’t get how I can be this way, but others will totally get it. To tie back to the picture, it’s kinda dark overall with highlights of the sun. So, I identify my depression yet sense of week’s end with it.

cheers!

daily pic #10 – distorted

Sometimes the window isn’t clear.

86

I picked this one today, well, because I ran across it and it fit stuff I was thinking about. I don’t want to tell the whole story, but pretty much something that I really wanted to do fell through. For most of the day I was wondering why. I figured there was probably a good reason, but it’s so hard to give someone the benefit of the doubt when it opposes what you want. I did find out later that there was a perfectly good explanation and it wasn’t personal.

Basically, like the window, life isn’t always clear. If I believed that what I saw through the window was how it was outside, then I wouldn’t ever want to open the door. But I have to stop and check myself, telling myself that there may be a blurred window in the way and wait until the door is opened to make a decision about the scenery. So if something doesn’t make sense to you and you don’t have all the facts yet, wait for them before passing judgment. You’ll be better off for it. Of coarse that doesn’t mean that when the door opens you won’t see a garbage dump. It just means that you’ll have peace of mind until the stench hits you.

cheers!

a friends lament

chains of “creativity”
by ms. sabrina lynn

ah the mind is such a shabby thing
when all the heart can do is beat its fists
upon a the silent ears of a lazy mind
and cry for longing to be filled
no hope of that
for it needs cooperation that is nowhere to be found

and yet i cant find it in me to drag my capable hands to their places
and the mind to the right spaces where knowledge is found
for i have no passion in essays that speak of people gone
learn and reflect on the now

let my mind go free onto plains of pondering
into jungles of discovering
but please for the life of me
do not chain me to the repitition of an essay!

why must we be forced to write what others have already said?
about people long since dead?
if everyone has new ideas shouldnt we be allowed to let them all out?
for surely there is greater wealth in the thousand new ideas than the same old few ones that noone cares about anymore

i think that i shall die
forgive my dramatics
but i hate these english acrobatics
so cold and stone and unmolding
never changing for creativity
be creative they say
but they give us chains that say to reapeat what we’ve heard a thousand times
does an overseer tell his workers to continuously build in the same spot when it has already been done to its best capacity?
no, but he tells them to continue on to build new rooms and make it grander!
let us build the world, we’re stuck on the same wall now for decades!

pictures

Well, I meant to put pictures up and prepared quite a few, but then I viewed them on my laptop screen instead of my external monitor and they looked completely different. So pretty much, you are going to have to wait until I can find another monitor to test them on to see which is the closest to average. This is a huge bummer because it was really nice using my large monitor for editing. I guess I might have to invest in one of those screen tester thing-a-majigs. We’ll see. But that’s the status. I also was feeling sick on my day off. Go figure. First day off in 4 weeks straight and I get sick. Oh well, hope ya’ll are doing good.
cheers!
